Most visitors to Tijuana are crossing the border to shop
or to party. If, however, you are planning on spending a day
or two, chances are that you are coming from quite a distance
and don't want to spend more time on the road than at your
destination -- or -- you are just popping down from LA or San
Diego and
don't want to drink and drive.
Trust me, I've been there and done that enough times to lend
a little advice.
If you are going to party late on Revolution, leave your car
at the HOTEL where they will usually have secure parking and
take a TAXI to and from your Tijuana hotels (negotiate the
total price before accepting the ride -- some drivers will
try to
tell
you that the price they gave you was per person).
If you want to be able to walk from your party location to
your hotel, you have the choice of staying at some flea-bag
hotel on Revolution Blvd. -- or -- consider driving a little
further down the road and doing the party / crash at an Ensenada
hotel where decent hotels are within
walking
distance of the nightlife.
Never walk alone in areas that don't have plenty of light
and other people after dark. Predators exist in all cities
and they look for the easy (drunk?) targets. About
parking : The no symbol over an "E" is the same as our
no parking sign. If you parked there you can expect it to be
towed by the time you return. There are secure (guarded) parking
lots in every city in Mexico . . . USE THEM! The few dollars
that it will cost you is trivial when compared to what you
will pay for the window that was broken to steal that $10 radio
you had in your car.
Insurance : If you are going to drive across the boarder,
you better stop before crossing the border and get some Mexican
Auto Insurance. If you are in an accident, you will be detained
until damages and liability can be assessed. Yeah, you will
be held in a Mexican jail. If, however, you have proof of insurance,
you will usually just need to fill out the police / accident
reports and contact the insurance company. |
