AIRPORT NAME: Los Cabos International Airport;
code SJD.
LOCATION: 13 km (8 miles) north of San Jose;
48 km
(29 miles) northeast of Cabo San Lucas.
FACILITIES: The SJD airport comprises two terminals. The main
one (or northern terminal)
and the Charter
(or southern) terminal, home to Alaska Airlines
and charter flights. The two terminals
are now privately owned and operated.
There are
numerous car rental agencies at both
terminals.
From the airport, frequent van transfers are
available at reasonable rates. Rental cars
are available at the airport and at many
hotels.

- Airport to San Jose del Cabo area:
$10 US per person.
- Airport to mid Corridor area:
$11 US per person.
- Airport to Cabo San Lucas area:
$13 US per person.
To get around Los Cabos, taxis are plentiful.
Interestingly, two different unions control
all taxis in Los Cabos: red & yellow
cabs are from San Jose; blue/black or
green/gray cabs are from Cabo San Lucas.
Vehicles are usually large American vans
and sedans. RATES ARE EXPENSIVE!
Between Cabo and San Jose the fare is $27
US per vehicle each way.
For travelers on a budget, there is hourly
bus service between San Jose and Cabo
San Lucas via the Flecha Verde and
Estrella de Oro bus lines. Brand new service
via Subur Cabo (using deluxe blue
and orange painted buses) is a welcome
addition at a mere $15 pesos (about $1.60
US) between both towns. Buses depart
from each city's main bus terminal, and
the trip takes about 35 minutes. There is
also hotel shuttle service between the
Corridor and Cabo San Lucas by hotel
chains with sister hotels in each region.
If you plan to travel frequently between
the two towns, renting a car is recommended.
The highway connecting San Jose
and Cabo San Lucas has been widened to
four lanes. This has improved road safety
and shortened travel time through the corridor
region.
Note: Bikes, ATV's, and mopeds can also be
rented
by the day or hour, in either San Jose or
Cabo San Lucas. |
