Airport Name: Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International
Airport; code PVR.
Location: 6.5 km. north of downtown.
Facilities: Typical of most Mexico airports, the
recently remodeled terminal has polished
marble floors, plenty of souvenir
shopping, a bank, an ice cream parlor,
and a restaurant/bar. Excellent dutyfree
facilities.
From the airport frequent van transfers
are available at reasonable rates. Several
rental car companies have airport desks.
To get around P.V., taxis are readily available
at all hours. Rates are extremely reasonable.
There is also reliable tourist bus
service that goes from Mismaloya in the
south to the Marina entrance. Look for
blue and white signs along the main highway.
Fare is about 3 pesos per ride. Vallarta
has a new bus station located a short
distance east of the airport. Use this station
for all bus trips departing PVR.
Traffic can be a problem through town, particularly
at peak periods. Parking is difficult
to find. Thanks to a bypass, bus and
truck traffic has largely been diverted off
the city's one-way, narrow streets.
Despite three decades
of development,
Puerto Vallarta's
downtown area has managed to
retain the appearance of a colonial
seaside village. Hotels in town are
generally for the budget-minded and
those wanting the feel of Vallarta's
Old Mexico ambience. Remember, no
matter where you stay in Puerto
Vallarta, everyone comes to town to
shop, dine and dance. |
